we continue to be cautious in managing the number of faculty and staff hired to lead
our institution. As we look to the 2013-2014 academic year, we will launch the
College’s strategic plan, we will introduce the Comprehensive Assessment Plan for
institutional effectiveness, and we will continue the development of a robust college-
wide planning and assessment process. ese important priorities require that strong
leadership exists in every critical position. Last semester, i commissioned Professor
John Gallagher to conduct a review of the administrative structure, roles and
responsibilities, and outcomes for all positions across the College. His report assisted
me with implementing a number of internal organizational changes that i believe are
necessary in order for us to advance as a college of excellence: Dr. evon walters has
been appointed to serve as the Associate vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Maria
DeLongoria will join the eastern Campus as the interim executive Dean, retaining her
responsibilities as the Associate vice President for Academic Affairs. A full search will
be conducted to replace Dr. walters. Mr. George Tvelia will serve out of retirement
as the Acting executive Dean for the Ammerman Campus; Ms. Mary reese has been
appointed as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs on the eastern Campus; Mr. Nick
Palumbo has been appointed as the executive Director of Sustainability Programs for
the College, and Mr. Anthony DeAngelis has been appointed as the eastern Campus
Director of Plant operations. Together with my administrative team, we will work to
advance our institution’s teaching and learning environment.

2% retroactive raises for the College’s employees for 2011 and 2012. in addition, it
gave the College the right to switch up to four existing AMe holidays in order to
coordinate these days with the holiday schedules in place for Guild and exempt
employees at the College. e agreement also allows the College to implement direct
deposit of paychecks for its employees.
in August, 30 selected members of the college community will participate in
the College’s Advanced Academy for Leadership and Development. Sessions are
conducted by facilitators from the Chair Academy, a nationally-acclaimed
postsecondary leadership training provider. in addition, the current leadership
cohort will complete their year-long basic academy sessions where they spent the
past 12 months working closely with individual mentors to hone their leadership
