Also, for work on “e foreigner,” sound designer Spencer Batho won a scholarship
for a Stage Craft institute of Las vegas intensive program. e Ammerman Campus
eatre Department holds the record for two-year schools in placing acting
scholarship finalists at the Kennedy awards.
Suffolk’s Psi Beta Chapter on the Ammerman Campus received the 2012-2013
Chapter excellence Award. is award challenges chapters to engage in activities
reflecting Psi Beta’s mission priorities of leadership, scholarship, community service,
and research. few of the nation’s Psi Beta chapters achieve this level of distinction.
is is the second consecutive year the Ammerman Campus Chapter has been
recognized with this award. Psi Beta is the National Honor Society in Psychology
for Community and Junior Colleges. it is an affiliate of the American Psychological
Association and the American Psychological Society as well as a member of the
Association of College Honor Societies.
e College’s entrepreneurial Assistance Center was awarded the 2012 New York
State entrepreneurial Assistance Program Award for excellence in outstanding
Program Performance and Achievement. we were one of four centers to receive an
award for exceeding program performance goals. ere are 24 eAP Centers
throughout New York State.
George T. waszkiewicz, a nursing student at the Ammerman Campus, is the recipient
of a 2012-2013 vanguard Student recognition Award. e vanguard Award is
presented to select students in New York State who are enrolled in secondary or
postsecondary Career and Technical education Programs not traditional for their
gender. is year, five winners were selected from a total of 68 nominees statewide.
i am pleased to announce that the following members of the College’s faculty have

• Scott Giaccone-Professor of Business, Ammerman Campus-excellence in
Teaching
Dr. Michael inglis, Associate Professor of earth and Space Science on the Ammerman
Campus, is on sabbatical at the Center for Astrophysical research at the University of
Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. while there, he has arranged for astronomy
students at Suffolk County Community College to use, remotely, the telescopes at the
university’s observatory at Bayfordbury. e observatory is regarded as the finest
teaching observatory in the UK and has the largest collection of robotic telescopes in
europe.
is past spring, John Lombardo, Associate vice President for workforce and
economic Development, was selected to receive a 2013 Manufacturing
Leadership Advocacy Award from the Manufacturing Leadership Council. is
international award honors companies and individuals that are shaping the future of
global manufacturing through sustainability, operational excellence, workforce
development, innovation, entrepreneurship and industry advocacy. AvP Lombardo
received an award for individual manufacturing executive achievement. He has
devoted his entire career to education and training on Long island.
