Excellence in Athletics.
Suffolk County Community College has claimed second
place in the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators
(NATYCAA) Directors’ Cup. is award is presented annually by the National
Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors of America (NACDA) and NATYCAA
to the top intercollegiate two-year athletic programs in the country and honors
institutions that excel in both men’s and women’s athletics. each participating
institution is awarded points in a pre-determined number of sports for men and
women. e overall champion is the institution that records the highest number of
points in their division’s standings.
Dylan feeney and Kenny Meinsen from the College’s Men’s Lacrosse team, signed
national letters of intent to play for the furman University Paladins, a Division i team
located in Greenville, South Carolina. Suffolk Lacrosse was 12-5 last year and finished
the season in the top five for the NJCAA. As lacrosse programs continue to flourish
on Long island, we have determined that the College will form its first
women’s team next year.
e fall 2012 athletic season was full of success for our sports
programs. our Men’s and women’s Cross Country teams were
both region Xv Champions. At the National NJCAA
Cross Country Championships, the men placed 8th
and the women placed 5th. Danielle Milo finished
8th in the women’s event, which earned her 2nd-
Team All-American honors. Men’s Soccer was the
2012 region Xv Champions. e team
finished the regular season with a 17-2 overall record.
Darren McCormick was named to the All-Tournament
Team. women’s volleyball was also 2012 region Xv
Champions. e team ended the regular season with
a 20-2 overall record and placed 8th at the national
tournament. women’s Tennis qualified for the
national tournament, but did not advance. in the
spring, the College attained national achievements in
Men’s and women’s Track and field: Dominique Mitchell won the National women’s
Long Jump Championship. She was also named to the All-American team for the
women’s 4x100 Meter relay. Dannie Holland won the National Men’s Triple Jump
Championship and was named to the All-American team. Kathleen Costello was
named to the All-American team for the Heptathlon. Tori ompson, Mackenzie
vickers and Danielle Milo were named to the All-American team for the women’s
4x100 Meter relay and the women’s 4x400 Meter relay. Genevieve Kuczewski was
named to the All-American team for the women’s 4x400 Meter relay.
e Suffolk County Community College women’s volleyball Team defeated the
team from Nassau Community College in three highly competitive games in the best-
of-five-games series held as part of the Dig Pink volleyball match to raise funds to
support breast cancer education programs and research efforts. e Brookhaven
Gymnasium on the Ammerman Campus was full of fans and families and the event
was simulcast live on the College’s website. i welcomed the crowd and was later
interviewed for a webcast during the half-time break in play.
