Generous support from the retirees Association of Suffolk County Community
College (rASCC) helped the foundation sponsor its annual event to recognize and
congratulate members of our faculty who have been selected to receive Campus
Governance Awards for Academic excellence and Service and SUNY Chancellor
Award recipients. e luncheon was held on April 26th this year and it continues to
be an event that is looked forward to with great anticipation. other foundation-
sponsored events included the 30th Anniversary celebration of the Ammerman
Campus American Sign Language Program in March and the Distinguished Student
Awards Ceremony in May.
each year, the foundation coordinates a holiday outreach effort for the children
of students in financial need who are currently attending our campuses. is year,
40 children were identified and received a happier holiday season thanks to support
from the college community. individuals and offices provided families with toys,
coats, shoes and gloves for the winter months.
Advanced Institutional Reputation.
During the past year, i was invited to
participate in a number of major international panels: e Council of Community
Colleges of Jamaica expressed its profound gratitude for my visit and the content of
my presentation, “e Anatomy of a College Ceo” at their annual conference.
in May, i delivered the keynote address at the iveTA Conference in Trinidad. iveTA
promotes the cause of international vocational education and training and provides
focused, in-depth coverage of critical issues in the field of workforce development.
e conference provides an annual forum for improving and advancing workforce
development and training initiatives. is year’s overarching theme was “education
for workforce Development: A Caribbean and Latin American Perspective.”
is year, i was named co-chair of the Long island regional economic Development
Council’s (LireDC) education and workforce work group. i was also nominated by
the American Association of Community Colleges’ (AACC) committee on directors
and membership services for a position on the AACC Board of Directors.
e College enjoyed another award-winning visit to this year’s annual regional
Kennedy Center American College eatre festival (KCACTf). e Kennedy Center
American College eatre is a national theatre program involving thousands of
students from hundreds of colleges and universities across the country. Suffolk eatre
majors captured multiple awards in numerous areas of the theatrical discipline,
including performance, design, technology, and management. oya Bangura won the
top prize in the prestigious irene ryan National Acting Scholarship competition over
15 other finalists from across the country and more than 2,500 student-actors who
participated in the eight regional competitions. robert Doyle was runner-up in both
the National Partners of American eatre Costume Design and the Barbizon awards.
