2012-2013 Review of Accomplishments
Inspiring Philanthropy.
Philanthropy transforms the lives of our students,
enhances our academic programs and fosters goodwill among those we are privileged
to educate and serve. Donations are received through the Suffolk Community College
foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1989 to raise money to support the
mission of the College, fund scholarships, offer emergency student loans and support
academic enrichment programs.
Generous donations from alumni, friends, family foundations, corporate partners,
faculty and employees enabled us to award $435,000 in scholarship support this year.
New scholarships were established including a $300,000 gift to endow four
scholarships in our eatre Arts Program, support from the Atlantic Auto Mall to
benefit students pursing a degree in Automotive Technology, a gift from the Knapp
Swezey foundation to fund nursing scholarships, a gift from e rotary District 7260
foundation of Suffolk County for students impacted by Hurricane Sandy and a gift
from the Peconic Landing Lifetime Learning Committee to fund scholarships for
returning, non-traditional students. Continued funding has enabled the growth and
expansion of existing scholarships including support from Air Conditioning
Contractors of America, Bank of America, Bed, Bath & Beyond, By request
Communications, the frey family foundation, J. Kings food Service Professionals,
Long island Street rod Association, Giuseppe A. Nigro Lodge - order of the Sons of
italy, Netter real estate, New York Community Bank and the New York Propane
Gas Association. in addition, the foundation’s emergency student loan program
provides approximately $60,000 in assistance each year to over 150 students on our
campuses who are faced with unanticipated education-related expenses.
our vision 2015 campaign is helping to transform lives. Co-Chairs on each of the
three campuses have been leading the employee initiative to move the campaign
forward. is $7 million campaign is raising funds to support student scholarships,
implement technology enhancements, endow College initiatives and develop green
and sustainability initiatives, thus ensuring that our students have access to an
affordable, robust higher education experience. Promoting the College’s advancement
through philanthropy has become a priority component of my work as President.
To date, we have secured campaign commitments totaling over $1.78 million,
including almost $305,000 from our own faculty and staff. 100% of the College’s
exempt administrators have contributed to the campaign. As we commenced the
employee giving portion of the campaign, my family and i announced a considerable
contribution commitment in support of vision 2015. is donation has been directed
toward support for the College’s eatre Arts program.
