More than 350 students have participated in this internship since its inception.
in January, the first in a series of Presidents roundtable discussions was held. over
20 company presidents have agreed to participate in these periodic forums. e event
focused on keys to growth for the Long island region, manufacturing challenges and
successes, technological needs, and a shared vision for joint product development
and a technology incubator. e group shared their challenges, but also focused on
solutions related to labor and engineering. Several companies shared their experiences
with the College’s training programs.
e College joined U.S. Congressman Tim Bishop to unveil a new educational
partnership that will leverage public and private resources to train the next generation
of Long islanders for careers in high-demand Science, Technology, engineering and
Math (STeM) fields. e Pathways in Technology early College High School
(P-TeCH) program is a six-year model that covers grades 9-12 and the first two years
of college. our partnership, which includes Longwood High School, eastern Suffolk
BoCeS, and Computer Associates (CA Technologies) has applied for a grant to fund
a P-Tech program on Long island. if funded, the partnership will annually provide
20 students from Longwood and five students from South Country with an
opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree
in either Computer Science or information Technology. we anticipate that the
winning grant proposals will be announced by the end of the summer.
