Networking & Telecommunications successfully streamed the graduation ceremony to
the web using the new wowsa server. e streaming connected over 200 users and
received very positive feedback. in order to support additional bandwidth needs, the
office has started to design alternate links for next year utilizing the internet Service
Provider connections at each campus, which will enable the streaming to reach an
even larger audience.
i really enjoyed this year’s Honors Program Convocation. Matthew Mayers, an
18-year old student who i believe will go on to accomplish great things, was featured
as the student speaker and his remarks centered on the lighthouse, which is integral to
our logo. He used the lighthouse as a metaphor for the energy and the foundation
that he found during his years at the College and which he believes the College
imparts to all its students. Matthew was accepted into Cornell and i am confident he
will have an exceptional academic future. A vast majority of our honors program grad-
uates are transferring to Stony Brook University. other students have been accepted to
institutions such as NYU, Columbia, the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill, and william & Mary, among many others.
in May, i was the personal guest of Dr. Calvin Butts, President of SUNY College at
old westbury, when they hosted Mr. Jamie Dimon, Chairman and Ceo of
JP Morgan Chase. is visit was part of the launch for the College’s executive
Leadership forum and Mr. Dimon was a timely presenter as he is one of our
nation’s top financial leaders. So much of today’s economic challenges are linked to
the financial services industry and the forum participants garnered valuable insight
during his session.
