Public Safety.
i met with Chief Cameron from the Suffolk County Police
Department (SCPD) to discuss ways we can ensure a swift and smooth response
to emergencies that could occur on campus.
All of the College’s captains and lieutenants have attended SCPD active shooter
training at the Police Academy. i arranged to have the Public Safety officers included
in the Police Department training as part of the College’s effort to increase safety and
security on all three campuses. As space is allocated to the College by the SCPD in the
future, all other public safety officers are expected to receive this important training.
Staff completed the installation of the new network closed-circuit television (CCTv)
system at the Michael J. Grant Campus. e CCTv server has the capacity to handle
50 cameras.
in accordance with New York State education Law, the College must have an
Advisory Committee on Campus Security with specific responsibility for reviewing
existing security policies and procedures and making recommendations for improve-
ments. in 2013, i formed a nine-person committee with representatives from our
student body, staff, and faculty. e Committee completed its review as initially
charged and provided its findings and recommendations.
