Through a partnership with Cenergisitic, a national leader in energy
conservation, the College actively manages its energy consumption,
which produced in aggregate approximately $2 million in avoided
energy costs in the first two years of the program, along with a
significant reduction in the institutional environmental impact.
The College is actively exploring new renewable energy sources.
Suffolk became an organizational partner of the New York Offshore
Wind Alliance and the College is working with developers to support
workforce needs and encourage this clean tech industry in the region.
The College also secured grant funding from
the NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation
to construct a green roof on each campus.
These rooftops help reduce energy use in
buildings, both in summer cooling and
winter heating. They also help retain and filter
rainwater runoff before it flows through to our
sole-source aquifer.
Suffolk is actively pursuing deployment of
solar generation. Solar panels installed at the
College currently generate approximately
151,000 kWh of electricity.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, the College utilizes
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards
and also implements elements of environmentally sustainable
design in its new and retrofitted buildings.
