Suffolk County Community College is one of the 64 colleges
and universities that make up the State University of New
York (SUNY) system. With an enrollment of approximately
27,000 students, it is the largest community college in New
York State. As a premier, learning-centered institution, the
College offers more than 100 degree and certificate options
on three campuses in Brentwood, Selden and Riverhead and
two downtown centers in Sayville and Riverhead.
The College’s mission is to promote intellectual discovery,
physical development, social and ethical awareness, and
economic opportunities for all through an education that
transforms lives, builds communities, and improves society.
At Suffolk, sustainability and civic responsibility to the
communities it serves has long been a core value.
In 2014, the Board of Trustees adopted an
Energy Conservation Policy. At that time,
the Office of Sustainability was
formed to uphold Suffolk’s
commitment to the
environment.
The Office of Sustainability is dedicated
to the comprehensive integration of
sustainability into the College’s operations.
It also reaches out to Long Island’s civic
and environmental leaders, business
executives, K-12 leaders, and government
officials, to identify mutual interests and
to support of an agenda of a sustainable
economy for the local community, the
region and beyond.
