we accepted a National Science foundation Advanced Technological education
(ATe) grant in the amount of $200,000. is is a prestigious grant and an exciting
first step in a process that can lead to an ATe regional Center grant--which has long
been a goal for our office of Grants Development. Long island does not currently
have an ATe regional Center. Such centers concentrate on particular areas of
workforce development, such as advanced manufacturing and green technologies,
serving as flagships to address national and regional approaches to key issues in
specific technology fields.
e College is actively meeting with representatives from Nassau Community
College, SUNY old westbury and SUNY farmingdale as a regional consortium
formed to pursue submitting a grant proposal for the SUNY 2020 competition.

Training Administration (DoLeTA) Community-Based Job Training (CBJT) Grant
review, scheduled for May 2012, is being rescheduled to occur during the government’s
2013 fiscal year (oct. 1, 2012 – Sept 30, 2013). is change is being made as a result
of the request by Assistant Secretary Jane oates who has indicated her preference for
visiting sites in about eight states with programs that combined basic education with
technical training and had good relationships with industry and the workforce system.
