Exciting Improvements to Infrastructure and New Buildings.
we have
begun design work for the Health and wellness facility on the eastern Campus and
the new Learning resource Center on the Michael J. Grant Campus. Shortly, we will
break ground on the new Science and Technology Building on the Ammerman Cam-
pus. once completed, these new facilities will ensure that students who attend Suffolk
will enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year institution with the benefit and
experience gained through an education that took place in a state-of-the-art learning
environment. in the near future we will see the following:
• Construction of the new 64,000 square-foot Science and Technology Building
on the Ammerman Campus is slated to begin in the fall of 2012.
• Construction of the 69,000 square-foot Learning resource Center (LrC) at
the Michael J. Grant Campus is anticipated to begin in 2013. Construction
of the 48,000 square-foot Health and wellness facility on the eastern Campus
is expected to begin in 2014.
• A Central receiving warehouse renovation is currently in design for the
Ammerman Campus.
• renovations to Kreiling Hall (2014) and the Sagtikos Building (2015), a new
traffic circle on the Ammerman Campus (2014), a warehouse building on the
eastern Campus (2014) and a renovated plant operations building on the
Michael J. Grant Campus (2015).
ere are many other active capital projects in progress, including building
renovations on all three campuses and college-wide HvAC systems upgrades. is
past year, we completed a number of college-wide infrastructure improvements:
• improved safety and security through fire alarm system upgrades and improved
site lighting.
• enhanced energy efficiency with the installation of new boilers and air
conditioning upgrades.
• enhanced public spaces with walkway improvements, pothole repairs, repaving
and catch basin repair.
• reduced environmental impact through the replacement of 20- and 30-year
old restroom fixtures resulting in the conservation of 770,000 gallons of
water annually.
Going forward, the College is mindful of the economic challenges facing our State
and local governments and will continue to share information with elected officials so
that they are aware of the most pressing capital needs of the institution and the value
that these projects provide to students and community residents.
American Libraries
, the magazine of the American Library Association, publishes an
annual review of the best in new and renovated library facilities. e 2012 Library
Design Showcase is divided into sections that each focus on one architectural aspect.
is year the Montaukett Learning resource Center on the eastern Campus was
invited to submit its design and was recognized in the category of Collaborative
Learning. is category acknowledges facilities that have made a special effort to
provide space for collaboration, while still respecting other patrons' desires for silence.
e new Science and Technology Center on the
Ammerman Campus will be LEED certified.
