2011-2012 Review of Accomplishments
Excellence in Athletics.
our athletes and athletic teams represented the College
with class and tremendous pride. Among the highlights achieved by this year’s student
athletes were the following:
• Swimming/Diving: Suffolk was home to the national champion in the Men's
200 Backstroke.
• Track and field: SCCC won three national titles (women’s shot put and discus
throw, and men’s long jump) and five All-American honors.
• Men’s Golf enjoyed its most successful season in decades, culminating with a
second-place finish in the region and one All-American team honor.
• Men’s Tennis: one Academic All-American.
• Men’s Lacrosse: e team finished the season with one of the highest national
rankings for a Suffolk lacrosse team in more than two decades (#5). one team
member was named first-Team All-American and one was named Second-Team
All-American.
• Men’s Baseball: one team member was named Second-Team All-American and
chosen as Most valuable Player in region Xv.
in addition to our students, Suffolk’s coaches were also recognized at state and
national levels. Assistant Track and field Coach Lauren Biscardi, was awarded
National Assistant Coach of the Year and Head women’s Basketball Coach Kevin
foley, was once again voted region Xv Coach of the Year by his coaching peers. is
is the 8th time since Coach foley has been the women's basketball coach at Suffolk
that he has won the award.
Advanced Institutional Reputation.
e number of students who start college
with remedial needs has increased over the years. i was honored to be selected by
SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher to participate on a 29-member SUNY
remediation Task force, which will determine how to alleviate or mediate the need
for remedial education at the collegiate level. is is one of nine major initiatives
outlined by the Chancellor in her 2012 State of the University Address.
Kevin Foley, Head Women’s Basketball Coach,
was voted Region XV Coach of the Year for the 8th time.
e Kennedy Center American College eatre
(KCACTF) showcased e Icarus Project,
an original work produced by the eatres at
Suffolk County Community College, at its
Region I Festival in Massachusetts.
