Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is designed to provide academic
support to students enrolled full-time in a curriculum at Suffolk County Community
College. Students admitted to the program have the academic potential to attain a
college degree, but may need additional academic support and counseling
throughout their time at the College.
Eligibility
The program is offered to full-time
students who are New York State
residents for a minimum of twelve
months prior to attending college.
EOP accepts students who qualify
academically and financially based
on the following guidelines:
• The student must be a New York
State resident;
• The student must be a recipient of
a high school diploma, GED, or its
equivalent;
• The student is registered as a
full-time student;
• The student must have a 79
average or less in high school
major subjects, or placement
in one or more developmental
courses, or be a non-high school
graduate who is admitted to
Suffolk through the Ability to
Benefit (ATB) program; and
• The student must meet the NYS
legislated income guidelines.
Program Highlights
• A 5-week summer program, which begins in July, provides a college orientation
and intensive review of reading, writing, computer and mathematic skills;
• Additional tutorial services throughout the semester;
• Intensive counseling services are available;
• Registration priority helps students enroll in required classes;
• Induction into Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society (3.0 cumulative GPA or better for
two consecutive semesters).
EOP is co-funded by an Educational Opportunity Program grant from the State University of New York
and funds provided by Suffolk County Community College.
