Thank you everybody for 13 attending our special meeting. 14 I would like to start off by 15 announcing that I received a letter from 16 Trustee Tom Germano expressing his 17 regret, but he's resigning as a trustee 18 at Suffolk Community College. To make 19 everybody aware of, and to make it 20 easier for everybody to understand what 21 we're going to be doing going forward, I 22 have a prepared statement I'd like to 23 read to everybody. 24 After an extensive follow-up 25 meeting with Dr. Shaun McKay, and upon 1 SCCC Board of Trustees 1/14/10 5 2 further discussion among the members of 3 the Board, the Trustees of Suffolk 4 Community College have decided to enter 5 into negotiations with Dr. McKay for the 6 position of President of Suffolk County 7 Community College. 8 The Board believes that at this 9 point in the College's history, 10 Dr. McKay is eminently qualified to lead 11 this outstanding institution of higher 12 education. During his five-year tenure 13 with the College, Dr. McKay successfully 14 led our fastest growing campus as 15 Executive Dean; advocated on behalf of 16 the operating and capital budgets for 17 the College; worked closely with the 18 faculty to advance numerous projects; 19 and led initiatives to address student 20 success, faculty development, program 21 growth and renewal, workforce 22 development and enrollment management. 23 Finally, he's established and built upon 24 productive partnerships and alliances to 25 advance the College's mission in our 1 SCCC Board of Trustees 1/14/10 6 2 region. 3 The Board is confident that 4 Dr. McKay's career experience in 5 community college administration, 6 operations, strategic planning and 7 fundraising would bring long-term 8 success to Suffolk County Community 9 College. 10 If negotiations with Dr. McKay 11 are successful, a resolution appointing 12 him as President will be laid on the 13 table for a vote at the February 11th, 14 2010 College Board of Trustee meeting. 15 Upon the passage, Dr. McKay will be 16 interviewed by SUNY Chancellor 17 Dr. Nancy Zimpher and voted upon by the 18 SUNY Board of Trustees.
