Being Different On Long Island: Embracing Our Differences Week Programming

 
How are differences among people keeping our community from realizing its full potential? 

The Suffolk Center on the Holocaust, Diversity & Human Understanding, Inc., together with the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission and the Suffolk County Interfaith Anti-Bias Task Force, are initiating a series of conversations to identify the state of difference and the actions needed to overcome the obstacles to a fully inclusive society. 

Beginning the week of October 20, 2014, there will be several panel discussions about these questions, each from their unique perspective. 

The public is invited to attend these free sessions.
 
Location:          
Suffolk County Community College, Grant Campus in Brentwood
 
Session I:           
Embracing Our Differences reception featuring remarks by Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Shaun McKay and a panel of artists including Patricia Lannes as moderator, and Robert Carter, Juan Lopez, and Chang-Jin Lee. 
October 20 at 4 pm in the Van Nostrand Theatre, Sagtikos Arts and Science Building
                                                         
 
Session II:          
A panel of members from the Multi Faith Forum will discuss how differences within and among religions have kept people apart, and how religion can become a force for positive change.  
October 21 from 11 am to 12:15 pm in room 105 of the Health, Sports and Education Building   
 
Session III:         
Unity Day program with a keynote address by James Banks, Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs at Suffolk County Community College, a panel discussion of student leaders, and a panel discussion of community leaders who are members of town Anti-Bias Task Forces. 
October 24 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Van Nostrand Theatre,
Sagtikos Arts and Science Building
