POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Announcement is hereby made for a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning in the fall 2020 semester on the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description

The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking astrophysicist applicants with primary responsibilities of teaching all levels of physics from technical level to calculus-based physics, as well as varied astronomy courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching, professional development, and service.  The College seeks faculty who value the opportunity to form mentoring and advising relationships with our students.  The successful candidate will also demonstrate openness to pedagogical innovation, including, but not limited to, the integration of technology and distance education into the curriculum.  Duties will also include:

  • Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline, incorporating alternative approaches and methods when appropriate and possible.
  • Incorporates an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures and perspectives into courses.
  • Engages in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in courses.
  • Actively participates in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.
  • Participates in academic advisement and curriculum development.
  • Demonstration of scholarly work in the discipline.
  • Grant writing and integration of technology into teaching is preferred.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Master’s degree in astrophysics. Teaching experience at the college level is required.



HIRING SALARY:

The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculity Association of Suffolk County Community College
