POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Announcement is hereby made for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track, immediate appointment on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description

The successful candidate will perform various tasks to support/maintain the laboratories/lecture rooms utilized by the Construction Technology, Engineering Science, Fire Science and Electrical Technology programs. The successful candidate must be able to install/maintain various software products and licensing; maintain/support computer connectivity throughout the department via collaboration with College IT and ETU support; perform mechanical and electrical assembly; and work with students/faculty pertaining to labs/projects. The successful candidate will also maintain supplies associated with the various programs, will maintain electrical and mechanical equipment, and is responsible for acquiring orders and bids for replacement/new equipment/parts. A willingness to be actively involved in supporting implementation of grants, current and new curriculum design, course development within the discipline, and support of technical clubs in the department is essential.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ongoing commitment: to excellence in supporting the various programs of the Engineering Science Department, to professional development, and to continuing to learn new technology utilized by the various programs. The department seeks a technically skilled individual to support students/faculty in the delivery of technical content, as well as help organize and maintain technology/engineering clubs. The successful candidate will also demonstrate openness to pedagogical innovation, including, but not limited to, the integration of technology and distance education into the curriculum.  

 

Duties will also include:

  • Maintain, repair and order replacement equipment for the Engineering, Construction, Fire Science and Electronic programs.
  • Provide support and implementation of various grant funded programs.
  • Utilize various machining and carpentry equipment/tools to construct various items for the department and student use.
  • Maintain organization and restocking of a variety of lab kits/technical supplies.
  • Support faculty and students in the implementation of labs, projects and demonstration of technical material.
  • Support/maintain/install the various software products/licensing of such products as, but not limited to, AutoCAD, Microsoft products, MATLAB, electronic and construction simulation programs.
  • Actively participate in departmental, campus and College presentations as well as support outreach programs to local community and high schools.
  • Participate in curriculum development and new technology development/implementation.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to learn and implement new technology such as, but not limited to, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ARM processor technology, programing/ maintaining robotic systems, and various technology systems.
  • Maintain rooms associated with all the department programs and the equipment in those rooms; such equipment to include: electronic test equipment, computer stations, lab furniture, 3D printing lab, plotters and printers, supplies associated with these items, construction and fire science technology equipment.
  • Maintain and oversee the organization, cleanliness of lab/lecture rooms as well as the update of faculty multimedia/computer stations and the white/blackboards in department lab/lecture rooms. Selection and implementation of new technology into faculty presentation centers/labs and collaboration with Cybersecurity lab/program.

 



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

A Master’s Degree related to technology and/or IT/software or a closely related field. Experience in maintaining and/or working with various technical systems, mechanical skills and passion in working hands-on to develop/solve technical problems and implement technical projects.

The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
