The Day and/or Evening Manager of the Peconic Café, is responsible for assisting with overall operations and supervision of the part-time food service employees.  Oversight of operations includes all aspects of food preparation, food service, and campus caterings.  Caterings include on campus and off campus locations including the Riverhead downtown Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center.  The Day and/or Evening Manager, under the direction of the Peconic Café Director, will assure:

  • Training, supervision, and management of all Peconic Café staff regarding procedures and processes of customer service, Board of Health code compliance, and proper food handling procedures;
  • Coordinate preparation and timely delivery of caterings, both on campus and in the downtown Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center;   
  • Coordinate proper and timely pricing of catering events;
  • Manage proper opening and/or closing practices of the Peconic Café operations, ensuring Department of Health code compliance and proper cash handling procedures are being followed;
  • Development of creative menu options and support college wide sustainability efforts;
  • Oversee order processes for all food, beverages, and supplies on a weekly basis,
  • Maintain accurate inventories;
  • Ensure proper cost and portion controls are regularly assessed and all employees, Department of Labor workers, and work study are properly trained;
  • Ensure all Board of Health standards are maintained and any deviations or concerns, are reported and documented, to the Director of the Peconic Café;  
  • Perform daily inspections on all areas including stockrooms, refrigerators and serving areas to assure compliance of Board of Health Codes;
  • Ensure all employees adhere to professional standards of customer service and provide training as necessary;
  • Assist with food preparation, customer service, and cashiering as needed;
  • All other duties assigned by the Director of Peconic Café.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma Required; Associate Degree Preferred. 
  • Must be in possession of Suffolk County Board of Health Food Managers Certification.
  • Basic Functional Experience –2 years’ work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, or like environment.
