POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through both Suffolk’s Beacon program and through on-campus early college classes. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Suffolk enrolls thousands of students in English Language Learning courses, and also serves more service veterans and military-connected students than any other college in the SUNY system.

 

SUNY Suffolk is searching for a temporary grant-funded full-time (12-month), Professional Assistant (PA) - Project Manager to support the Jane F. Shearer School of Nursing to begin as soon as possible, at the Ammerman Campus in Selden. 

This is a five (5) year grant-funded position funded by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), with the possibility of yearly extensions. The successful candidate will be employed for periods concurrent with the grant award and availability of funding.     

 

The Project Manager will coordinate and oversee the implementation of a NYSDOH grant‑funded student success initiative designed to strengthen retention, resilience, and timely completion for students enrolled in the CNA, CMA, Practical Nursing, and Registered Nursing programs. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Nursing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and enroll eligible students into the program.
  • Maintain accurate program records, including data tracking, analysis, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly reports as directed.
  • Manage program spending, including monitoring the budget and overseeing the student reimbursement process.
  • Track student engagement, academic progress, participation, and program performance metrics.
  • Support collection and reporting of program outcome data.
  • Collaborate with Career Services to facilitate résumé development and interview preparation.
  • Coordinate employer information sessions and assist students with job placement.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, success coaches, and student services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for the Jane F. Shearer School of Nursing.

  • Proficiency in tracking, analyzing, and reporting data to support program outcomes and compliance.
  • A high level of professionalism and effective interpersonal communication when working with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Commitment to student success, particularly in healthcare and workforce‑focused academic programs.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and problem‑solve effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving program needs and reporting requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail in maintaining accurate records, budgets, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing professional email correspondence and verbal communication.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience in data management and administrative operations.
  • Experience monitoring expenditures, participation metrics, and program outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain accurate files using spreadsheets, databases, and reporting tools.

 

Preferred

  • Experience supporting grant‑funded programs, including reporting, compliance, and documentation.
  • Experience within higher education, student admissions/recruitment, workforce development, or healthcare education/training programs.


HIRING SALARY:

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.
