POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) is searching for two part-time Surgical Technology adjunct professional assistants (PA).  This position responsibilities focus on education, supervision, and evaluation of students in clinical and classroom settings. The adjunct will collaborate with the Clinical site Managers, the Schedule Coordinators and/or the Educational Coordinators for the Operating Room. Responsibilities:

 

  • Arranges for the individual preceptor(s) for each student (if applicable).
  • Monitors each student's progress weekly.
  • Maintain credentials as required by accrediting agencies and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist with classroom instruction, lab practice or clinical rotations.
  • Assist with evaluating the effectiveness and progression of the clinical experience.
  • Assist with maintaining clinic related documentation according to accreditation / certification requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records with Coordinator for each course taught in program
  • Acts as a liaison between the college and the clinical sites
  • Orients new students to information needed for rotation sites
  • Assist the program coordinator with curriculum planning and development of courses.
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are accomplished as defined
  • Assist with submission of college reports in an accurate, timely fashion
  • Assists in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies and learning resources.
  • Able to operate and demonstrate all equipment required to perform the duties of a surgical technologist.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Coordinates preceptor(s) to complete evaluations in a timely manner with students’ performance.
  • Maintains certification and participates in continuing education seminars and in professional development opportunities in order to maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills.
  • Other assignments as needed by program


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid New York Driver’s License
  • Currently Certified Surgical Technologist credentialed by the NBSTSA
  • Earned Associate's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Must have a minimum total of three years’ experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology or a combination of both within the past five years.

 

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates strong time management skills and managerial skills
