Message from the President
is has been an exciting and active year for the College and the communities that we
serve via our academic programs. As a result of the numerous initiatives that have
been launched and are now well under way, we are seeing our institution continuously
improve and our students flourishing in many ways.
each year, Suffolk County Community College educates tens of thousands of students.
even after they graduate, more than 83% remain on Long island, contributing to
the economy and to the innovation that occurs each year. ey live full lives that are
richer economically and academically by having taken advantage of what we offer
through our teaching and learning environment.
Now, more than ever before, Suffolk County Community College plays a lead role in
rebuilding confidence among the residents found in communities across Suffolk
County. Affordable, high quality education and training are essential to our region
and to preparing individuals for competitive careers that will pay the salaries necessary
to live and raise a family on Long island. with approximately 90% of all new high-
wage jobs requiring a college degree or post-secondary training, our continued success
in this area is vital to the success of our state and local economies.
i am proud of the work that the faculty and staff of this great institution have exhibited
and i am confident in our ability to build upon our past successes. As a nation, we
continue to face challenging economic times; as a region, we are fiscally strained but
will need to grow our way out of these current times via strategic investments. is
environment demands creativity in order to foster a renaissance for the county, state,
and country. our College represents the tenets that will transform the future via the
limitless opportunities that exist and can be pursued through education.
i am pleased to share with you this year’s annual report of accomplishments. it
contains a summary of the significant achievements and milestones that serve to
further our mission. ank you for your ongoing support, as it helps us transform
lives by educating students, training the regional workforce, and advancing Suffolk
County by building vibrant communities.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shaun L. McKay
