add a building on our Michael J. Grant Campus. Suffolk students will use this
new facility during the day, and LiU students will use it after 4:00 p.m. e building
will contain 25 classrooms and 14 offices.
our partnership with SUNY Delhi enables our culinary students to stay on Long
island, in the College’s Culinary Center, while completing their four-year degree
under the direction of Suffolk faculty members who have been cross- certified to
represent SUNY Delhi. our students “transfer” from Suffolk to Delhi and can earn
their baccalaureate degree, without leaving home.
in october, a ten-member delegation from China visited the College’s Automotive
Technology program. e purpose of the visit, organized by General Motors and
raytheon, was to introduce vocational school principals and trainers from China to
the model of education provided by SCCC. GM is seeking to create similar training
models in China.
e College participated in a SUNY regional Showcase at Stony Brook University’s
wang Center. SCCC’s areas of focus included: STeM (incorporating energy and
nurse training), Advanced Manufacturing, Corporate Training & entrepreneurship,
Culinary Arts & Hospitality, and Pipeline Development (incorporating the early
College Program and the Stay on Long island initiative).
e College is frequently chosen to host important regional events. is past year the
Michael J. Grant Campus was selected for a pre-screening of the CNN documentary
Black in America, Part 4 – e New Me Accelerator
. e program followed eight black
tech-entrepreneurs for a two-month immersion in San francisco as they worked to
launch their ideas into the marketplace. is event was offered to the public through
the Urban League of Long island and its partners. we had the opportunity to host the
Long island Latino Teachers Association (LiLTA) ird Annual women’s Conference:
women Leaders Paving Paths for Young women. i was honored to deliver welcoming
remarks to over 400 high school students, encouraging them to pursue a college
degree. e College was also chosen to host the swearing-in ceremony for incoming
Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone. finally, our eastern Campus hosted the Long
island regional economic Development Council. e purpose of this meeting was to
generate ideas about how to develop the strategic plan for long-term, sustainable
economic growth for our region. New York's Lieutenant Governor robert Duffy
attended the session.

e College’s Automotive Technology Program was recognized
with a site visit by General Motors’ Shanghai Division.
