responding to a need expressed by the community for qualified
first-responders, we will begin offering an A.A.S. Paramedic Program in fall 2012 to
provide innovative and comprehensive training in out-of-hospital, emergent and non-
emergent medical care. in the past, Suffolk County residents had to travel to Queens
County to access the nearest degree program. Building on its existing emergency
Medical Technician training, SCCC’s new Paramedic certificate and degree programs
encompass a combination of classroom, lab and clinical field experiences.
During spring 2012, the College contracted with Ad Astra information Systems to
deliver a strategic capacity and course offerings analysis. five years of data was
collected and analyzed. e college-wide Master Schedule Process Committee
(MSPC) places a priority on maximizing resources and has demonstrated a successful
outcome with regard to room utilization and course offering management. Ad Astra
indicated they have never seen such exceptional management of an academic master
schedule in all of the schools they have performed similar Strategic analysis. Since the
presentation of their findings, Ad Astra has requested that the College’s Associate
Dean for Student Affairs Gary Campbell deliver a presentation to College Provosts
and registrars from across the nation at their annual summit this coming December
to review the Master Schedule Development Calendar and the vetting process that
develops the calendar for Suffolk.
e College-wide Academic integrity Committee, a standing committee of the
College Academic Standards Committee, has reviewed the Academic integrity portion
of the Code of Conduct and made recommendations to revise and expand the
College’s existing academic integrity policies and procedures. in addition, the
Academic Standards Committee adopted revised add/drop, late registration and
academic probation policies.
Since 1972, SUNY Board policies have been passed and enacted to strengthen the
transfer experience within SUNY. Along with AA or AS degree acceptance, present
policy assures the transferability of 30 credit hours of general education courses from
seven of ten defined categories. Also assured for transfer are major related courses
typically taken in the first two years of academic study. Additionally, students are not
required to repeat courses that match the content of courses successfully completed.
To determine if there are improvements that can be made to ensure that these policies
are being carried out and to solicit suggestions on ways that these policies might be
better implemented, the College took a leadership role in designing and issuing a
SUNY Mobility Survey to the 64 SUNY campuses. over 70% of SUNY’s institutions
responded. e final report was issued in June and contained suggested action items
to address issues raised by the respondents.
