Child Care Organizations
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)

NAEYC promotes excellence in early childhood education. The site lists available catalogs, policies and legislation related to children, along with a list of NAEYC accredited child care centers.

NYS Child Day Care Home Page

This site, developed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, provides a range of resources for parents with their child care needs, for people who want to start or are running child care programs, and for those concerned with the health and safety of a child in a day care program. You may check the profile of any licensed child care center here.

NYS Division for Women

Lists many toll free hotline numbers in New York, including those for child abuse, child support enforcement, healthy baby, nutrition information, and many others.

Child Abuse Prevention

Provides information about reporting suspected cases of child abuse.

Child Care Council of Suffolk

Provides parents with child care referrals and information as well as training and support services for child care providers.

Educational Incentive Program

This program is a scholarship designed to assist child care providers obtain the training and education they need to provide quality care to children. Child care providers must be caring for children in a facility regulated by the New York State.

Global Education Locator

Locates information on public schools and school districts, including addresses, phone numbers, and student and teacher information. Also provides links to colleges and universities, public libraries, and private schools.

Suffolk Library Web

A cooperative project of the public libraries in Suffolk County. Provides access to library Web sites, a virtual card catalog, book availability, and other local Web sites covering such areas as art, consumer affairs, recreation, etc.

Suffolk County Department of Social Services

Provides information about benefits and services in such areas as family and children's services, child support enforcement, public assistance, and housing.

U.S. Department of Education

Access breaking stories and information about education on the national level, including such topics as financial aid, ERIC digests, finding a school or college, and drug-free schools.

A comprehensive site that offers information and advice on every parenting topic from A to Z.

Parenttime

This useful parenting site offers information and articles on hundreds of family matters, including parenting, education, family dynamics, and pets.

Choosing a Good Day Care Center

Offers a lengthy checklist to use when choosing a quality day care center.

ParentSoup

This parenting site gives you a wealth of information on many areas of child development. It has many interesting and fun features, including live advice from experts, chat rooms, message boards, quizzes, polls, and more.

KidSourceOnline

The source for in-depth and timely information on education and healthcare for newborns through high school. It lists new product news, video reviews, information on important child-related product recalls, and a wealth of information on learning disabilities.

DiscoverySchool.com

Discovery School's Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators is a vast site containing educational information for parents and teachers. Includes thousands of links on every subject ranging from art to history to science. Also lists lesson plans for pre-k to grade 12 and has numerous reference links.

Resources for Parents, Teens, and Kids

A great resource for both children and parents, developed by the American Library Association. For children and teens, there are pages that highlight good Web sites to visit, and recommended reading and software. For parents, there is information on adult reference and media materials, a link to Booklist magazine, and much more.

National Parent Information Network

As part of the ERIC Clearinghouse on elementary and early childhood education, this site focuses on information for parents, including a magazine, discussion list, conference events, state networks, an "ask-ERIC" section, and more.
