Financial Aid

At Suffolk County Community College we are committed to helping you afford a quality education. Whether you are a new, continuing or transfer student, planning to enroll part time or full time, taking classes during the day or evening, Suffolk can help make your educational goals a reality. Every year, Suffolk awards over $60 million in federal and state financial aid to more than 16,000 students. By combining quality education and low tuition with financial aid opportunities, Suffolk has proven to be a leader in affordable higher education. What is financial aid? Financial aid can be a combination of grants, scholarships and work-study that helps you and your family afford college. Aid can also include optional student loans, but loans are not a required part of the financial aid package. Should I apply for financial aid? Yes, if you believe that you need assistance with college costs. We encourage all students interested in attending Suffolk to apply for admission and fill out the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) via the web at studentaid.gov regardless of individual financial need. Where can I go for help? Each campus has a Financial Aid Office to assist students with the application process for all federal and state financial aid programs including PELL, the New York Excelsior Scholarship, Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Work-Study, Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) and the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. There, you will find assistance with filing your FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid), financial aid counseling, materials and information from the Depart- ment of Education as well as New York State Higher Education.
