Personal folders
Feature for Organizing your mail for On Campus Outlook Users Only
Your Inbox and Sent Items folders can quickly become very large and difficult to maintain. The messages in both these folders may also use up your storage space allotment. Personal folders is a tool within Outlook which may help organize your mail and clean out your mailbox on the server.
Personal Folders
are part of your Outlook profile. They are stored on your desktop PC rather than the Exchange server. If you use the Outlook Web client (through IE), you cannot use Personal Folders.
The Web client only opens your mailbox on the SCCC Exchange server.
To create personal folders for filing items from your Inbox and/or Sent Items folders.
Turn on the Folder list under the View menu.
Left click to highlight the phrase – Personal folders in your mailbox.
Right click to bring up a drop down menu
Select New folder from this menu
Pop up screen will prompt you to name the folder
After giving the folder a name click OK
New folder will appear in alpha order within your Personal folders
To Move Messages Into Personal Folders
Scroll up the Folder list and highlight your Inbox or Sent Items folder.
Click the column heading to sort the messages by From to see all messages grouped by sender in alpha order
Highlight the first message from i.e., Doug Kahn – hold down the shift key and highlight the last from her. All messages in between will highlight in dark blue.
With the arrow within the dark blue area, hold down the left side of the mouse and drag the messages to the newly created folder within your Personal folders
Let go of the mouse when the location folder is dark blue.
OR
Highlight the first message from i.e., Doug Kahn – hold down the shift key and highlight the last from him. All messages in between will highlight in dark blue, Right click to show drop down menu and choose Move to folder, make sure correct location folder is selected and click OK.
Messages should move to the new folder and be filed there.
When finished, remember to click the word Received in your Inbox to have the messages there sorted by date, latest at the top.
