The best approach for organizations in the fight against virus propagation,
is prevention. At the college, we license and install McAfee's virus prevention
products from Network Associates for all college desktops. Recently, Desktop
Services has upgraded each desktop to the latest scan engine and virus
defination (dat) file. More importantly, however, the product has been
configured to periodically and automatically update its engine and dat
file.
Important facts about the update process:
At installation, a schedule for automatic update was established for your
computer. For the process to complete, however, your
PC must be on at the scheduled time. See "When
am I scheduled to be updated next?" to view your schedule. Please
do not change this schedule. The dates and times have been selected to
coexist with other applications running over the network. Also, you must
reboot your PC after the update is completed for the protection program
to be again in place on your PC.
In order to respond to a potential problem or to make up for a missed schedule
date, it may become necessary for individuals to manually update their
engine and/or dat file. See "How
do I manually update my files?" for instructions.
