SCCC Outlook Web Access

Troubleshooting AOL logon

This section provides assistance for those who encounter problems logging on to SCCC OWA using AOL. OWA 2003 has enhanced security features as does AOL Version 9. It is recommended that you use the Internet Explorer (IE) browser to access OWA. You need to verify that you are using version 6.0 SP1 (or higher) of the IE browser. If you version of IE is not at least at version 6.0 SP1 you can download this version from Microsoft's download site.  AOL users can obtain IE 6.0 SP1 by upgrading to AOL 9.0, which is available at the AOL download site.

1. Check your current version of Internet Explorer OWA 2003 requires version 6.0 SP1 (or higher) of Microsoft IE. To find out what version of Microsoft IE you are running, start the IE application and click Help, select About Internet Explorer.

The Help Panel will then display the current version and service pack (SP) level.
The example below indicates Version 6.0 and service pack 2.

If you need to upgrade to IE 6.0 SP1, you can download IE upgrades directly from the Microsoft download site.

2. AOL Users - Check your version of AOL
To find out the version of AOL you are running, start AOL and click Help, select About America Online. The help panel will display the current version.  If you are not running AOL 9.0 (or higher) you may not have the correct version of IE browser for OWA 2003 to work properly.
If you need to upgrade to the current version of IE , there are two options available to you:

aol.com Download AOL 9.0

Microsoft.com Select download IE 6.0 SP1

3. AOL Users - Minimize the AOL screen
Start AOL, When the AOL screen appears, minimize the AOL screen. Do not use AOL browser to log on to OWA

4. Start Internet Explorer
Start the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser by clicking on the IE icon or selecting Internet Browser from your Start menu

5. Delete Cookies, Temporary Files and Clear History Delete cached Internet files from Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet files folder, locally stored Web site information (cookies), and the history of viewed Web page addresses.  Old information in these settings may cause problems when trying to log on to Outlook Web Access.
To clear the cookies, cache and history, perform the following:
Click the Tools option menu from the top of the screen, then Click Internet Options

The Internet Options panel is displayed. Perform the following on this panel.
Click Delete Cookies, then click OK to remove any cookies.
Click Delete Files, Click the check box in Delete All Offline Content and click OK. Depending on the amount of temporary files on your computer, this step may take a few minutes to complete.
Click Clear History, then click Yes, when it asks "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history of visited Web sites?'
Click OK to exit

6. Enter the Address of the Logon pages
Enter sunysuffolk.edu/exchange in the browser's address bar and press ENTER
NOTE: Do not click on a favorite, bookmark or a stored link.  Previously saved links may be going to a location that will not allow OWA to successfully complete the log on process.  Manually enter the address in the browser. You can save this new address as a bookmark for future use and delete old bookmarks or favorites links you may have used for OWA.

You will open the SCCC Outlook Web Access Logon page. If you do not open this page, verify that you entered the correct address and then re-try your connection.
Enter you user name and password, click OK.

Your SCCC mailbox will open.
