Using Simple/Straightforward Language

ADA Office

Web Page Guidelines - Use the simplest and most straightforward language that is possible.

This is an artifact of the writing process. Try to word your content in a way that it is accessible to multiple audiences. If you have an active server, you may choose to write the information several times targeted to different audiences, so users can retrieve the information written in the way that is best for them. It is important to consider the baseline user and have a version available for that person, but it is also important to consider the advanced user.

Rationale:

Using clear and simple language promotes effective communication. Access to written information can be difficult to impossible for people who have cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing. This consideration also applies to the many people whose first language differs from that of the web page.
