ADA

The Americans With Disabilities Act

ADA Office

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George Bush. Suffolk County Community College is covered under Title I (Employment) and Title II (State and Local Government) of the ADA.

Title I (effective July 26, 1992) and II (effective January 26, 1992), cover all programs and activities conducted by Suffolk County Community College and extend federal civil rights protection in several areas to persons who are considered disabled. Built upon a body of existing legislation, particularly the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the act states its purpose as a clear and comprehensive mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities.

The US Department of Justice, Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in State and Local Government Services Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) information is available.

SCCC has established an exchange folder  for inquiries to the SCCC ADA Committee. This folder may be accessed directly by e-mailing ADAWebAccessibility@sunysuffolk.edu
