Legionella Notification

In accordance with New York State Sanitary Code requirement (Subpart 4-1, Protection Against Legionella), Suffolk County Community College tested a cooling tower located on the roof of the Health Sports and Education Center on the Michael J. Grant Campus, Brentwood, NY. The sample result reported on August 29, 2016 showed that the concentration of Legionella bacteria in the cooling tower was 2,140 colony forming units per milliliter (CFU/ml). Per NYS protocol, any result over 1000 CFU/mL requires public notification, review of cooling tower treatment protocols and online decontamination of the cooling tower. This notice is the required public notification.

As required by Subpart 4-1, the College performed an online decontamination procedure of the cooling tower on August 30, 2016, reviewed its cooling tower treatment protocols, and retested the cooling tower.

Lab test results for the retesting of the cooling tower were 3 CFU/ml. As per NYS regulations for test results less than 20 CFU/ml, no further action is required at this time.
